Child shoots self in the leg in Kansas City near 23rd Street and Poplar
Kansas City police said a child was taken to a hospital after shooting himself in the leg Friday morning.
The incident occurred shortly before 7:30 a.m. Friday near 23rd Street and Poplar Avenue.
Initial reports are that the boy’s injuries were not life-threatening.
Police said the boy arrived at the residence with a relative but did not have a key to get inside. They boy climbed through a window and picked up the handgun that was nearby and accidentally shot himself.
A homeless man who had earlier broken into the residence grabbed the gun and fled. Police continue to look for the intruder.
