Westbound I-435 closed for hours in Overland Park after truck crash and fire
A section of westbound Interstate 435 in Overland Park was closed Tuesday morning for several hours after an overnight semitractor-trailer crashed and caught fire.
The interstate was closed between Antioch Road and U.S. 69 while emergency crews continued to deal with the aftermath of the fire.
Overland Park police said the truck struck a concrete median about 2:40 a.m. Tuesday.
Debris, possibly one of the truck’s axles, punctured its fuel tank sparking the fire, according to police.
Police said the driver and a passenger both suffered minor injuries.
The interstate had reopened by early afternoon.
