A new area franchisee for Vitality Bowls plans its first area location in Leawood.

The San Ramon, Calif.-based chain specializes in açaí bowls — a thick blend of the açaí berry topped with organic granola and a selection of “superfoods” including kale, honey, flax seed, fresh fruits and more. It also offers panini, salads, soups, smoothies and a fresh juice bar.

Chris Landes and his wife, Judy Deines, of Lee’s Summit plan a March opening at 11828 Roe Ave., Leawood.

In other Town Center Plaza updates, Modern Society Apparel also plans to open at 5040 W. 119th St. in late March or early April. The Springfield, Mo.-based boutique sells men’s and women’s casual wear.

Owners Bryan and Andrea Pena also want to open another area location between downtown and south Country Club Plaza. Bryan Pena grew up in Harrisonville, where his parents still live. He also lived on the Plaza and in Overland Park before moving to Springfield in 2008.
