National Beef Packing Co. has renewed its lease and will expand operations in an office building near Kansas City International Airport.
The Kansas City Aviation Department said Wednesday that the company will take 42,000 square feet, up from 27,000, in the Ambassador Building at 12200 N.W. Ambassador Drive.
The expansion includes planned growth in the company’s call center for its Kansas City Steak Co. business that offers steaks and beef patties through the Food Service channel and a direct-to-consumer mail order business.
The Aviation Department has owned and marketed the Ambassador Building, the former Farmland Industries headquarters, since 2006. It has 260,000 square feet of office space on a 23-acre campus next to KCI. The department said it had boosted building occupancy from 7 percent to about 70 percent.
National Beef has been a building tenant since 2001.
