Ferrellgas reports 41 percent profit increase

Ferrellgas Partners L.P. on Wednesday reported a 41 percent increase in its second quarter profit, despite warmer-than-normal winter weather that hurt propane sales.

The Overland Park-based company, which is one of the nation’s largest suppliers of propane, said it earned $86.4 million in the quarter that ended Jan. 31.

Total revenues declined to $665.9 million in the quarter from $869.7 million in the same period a year earlier. Ferrellgas said propane sales declined to 216 million gallons from 247 million the previous year, but it noted that “margins significantly improved as the cost of propane decreased dramatically from the prior year.”
