A pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle on Interstate 435 near Grandview Road on Saturday night, according to Kansas City police.

The accident happened about 8 p.m. Saturday in an eastbound lane of the interstate near the Grandview Road overpass.

Police said a silver Kia was traveling east in the left lane when it hit a pedestrian. The driver told police that a person ran into the right front side of his vehicle. He did not see the person before the impact, so he did not know where the person came from.

The driver slowed down and began pulling to the right shoulder. He remained at the scene and cooperated with police.

Police did not immediately release the name of the person who was killed.

No other injuries were reported.

The crash is being investigated by the Police Department’s Accident Investigation Section.

That wreck marked the second time in a 24-hour period when a vehicle struck and killed pedestrian in Kansas City.

Late Friday night, police investigated a hit-and-run crash that killed a woman as she was trying to cross the road at a crosswalk on U.S. 71 and Gregory Boulevard. Police on Sunday identified the woman as 25-year-old Jyra D. Hill.

Based on evidence and information from witnesses, police think the vehicle that hit the woman was a black or dark blue 2012-2015 Chevrolet Equinox.
