The Truman Library Institute will honor acclaimed author David McCullough with the Harry S. Truman Legacy of Leadership Award at its 19th annual fundraiser Wild About Harry. McCullough has won two Pulitzer Prizes, including one for his 1992 biography “Truman,” and has authored nine other books on topics ranging from John Adams to the Johnstown Flood. The Fun Show with Cat and Nat

For Catherine Belknap and Natalie Telfer, “perfect moms” are an illusion. “Billboard Blockbusters”

Here’s a show for people who remember the days before iPods and even before CDs, when listening to tunes on the radio was how music buffs followed their favorite artists. “Billboard Blockbusters,” with a piano, bass, drums and four vocalists, will revisit hits that topped the Billboard charts in the early days, including songs by Perry Como, Doris Day, Simon and Garfunkel and The Carpenters. Kansas City Symphony, Screenland at the Symphony: “Back to the Future”

Without requiring the magic of the flux capacitor, Marty McFly and Doc Brown will bring their DeLorean to the Kauffman Center. The 1985 film “Back to the Future,” starring Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd, will show on the big screen while the Kansas City Symphony performs the score, including additional music composer Alan Silvestri wrote for the film’s 30th anniversary. “Once on this Island”

Before they gave us “Ragtime,” Lynn Ahrens (book and lyrics) and Stephen Flaherty (music) adapted Rosa Guy’s novel “My Love, My Love” for the stage. “Once on this Island,” which originally opened on Broadway in 1990 and is now being revived at the Circle in the Square Theatre, tells the story of a Caribbean peasant girl who falls in love with a wealthy man. Bach Aria Soloists, “Night of Tango”

The chamber ensemble that usually focuses on the music of Johann Sebastian Bach will bring tango masters Hector del Curto (bandoneon) and Gustavo Casenave (piano) with Jeff Harshbarger (double bass) for a show that will feature Astor Piazzolla’s works and “Old Tango” compositions. Flights of Fancy Mega Kite Festival

Last year, more than 35,000 people attended this celebration on the north lawn of the MCC-Longview campus, where adults and children can fly their own kites or watch mega kites, power kites, stunt kites and other soaring structures, including what is being billed as the world’s largest windsock. Garmin Marathon/Half Marathon

Serious runners will take on the marathon, half-marathon and 10K courses that track through Olathe — with the top finishers earning Garmin Forerunners — but even casual joggers can try the family run. After finishing, participants can enjoy the “Emerald City” Festival, which will include free water, snacks, food, beer, margaritas, chiropractic adjustments, massages and yoga stretching. ozrun.org. Symphony Designers’ Showhouse

Visitors can support the Kansas City Symphony by touring the 49th Showhouse, which will feature about three dozen spaces displaying the talents of area designers as well as a boutique filled with one-of-a-kind items, home décor ideas and fashion from area artisans. The three-story, 5,034-square-foot colonial, which sits near the site of the Battle of Westport, was built in 1915. “Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella”

The composer and lyricist of “The Sound of Music” and “South Pacific” created their only work for television, a production of “Cinderella” that starred Julie Andrews, in 1957 for CBS. This adaptation made its Broadway debut in 2013 and brings a contemporary take on the classic tale.
