After record breaking rain Friday, mostly dry weekend expected for Kansas City area

After record rainfall Friday, the Kansas City area is expected to stay mostly dry for the weekend.

Temperatures will rise to the mid 60s by the end of the day Saturday with a slight chance of rain between 3 and 6 p.m. FOX4 meteorologist Garry Frank said in a weather update for The Star.

On Sunday, he said, the weather will be warm and sunny with high temperatures expected to be in the 70s.

The pleasant weekend follows record breaking rainfalls Friday, according to the National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill.

Kansas City had 1.09 inches of rain Friday, the organization said in a Twitter post. The previous record for April 24, the post said, was 0.91 inches in 1897.

Moving into the work week, Frank said, the weather “won’t be much of a nuisance until Tuesday.”

There is a chance of rain early in the morning Monday but more substantial rainstorms aren’t expected to come through the area until Tuesday, Frank said. There is an 80% chance of rain on Tuesday, Frank said.

Throughout the week Frank said he expects high temperatures to stay in the 60s and 70s.
