Kansas City weather: Snow to end by sunset Saturday but cold will stick around

Moderate to heavy snow will stay in Kansas City for much of the day Saturday as temperatures stay below freezing.

By the end of the day Saturday snowfall totals could reach 2 to 4 inches according to FOX 4 meteorologist Alex Countee in a weather update for The Star.

The heaviest of the snow is expected to be along and east of Interstate 35, Countee said. Those areas may see up to 4 to 5 inches of snow. Areas west of Interstate 35 are more likely to see a dusting to 2 inches of snow, Countee said.

The temperature is expected to sit near 20 degrees for much of the day.

“That number is really not going to be climbing or changing throughout the entire day today,” Countee said.

The snow should wrap up in time for the Sunday Chiefs game against the Houston Texans on Sunday.

The cold temperatures, however, will stick around, Countee said.

When gates open at 9 a.m. the temperature is expected to be around 20 degrees. It will rise to around 35 degrees by the 2 p.m. kickoff, Countee said.

There is a chance for a rain snow mix to move into the area during the second half of the game.

“It’s going to be clipping Arrowhead right around (Interstate) 70 and I-35,” Countee said.
