Portland trolls Sporting Kansas City with name of new bar at stadium
Too soon?
Last season, the Portland Timbers eliminated Sporting Kansas City from the playoffs after an epic* penalty-kick shootout victory.
*Epic is often overused by sports fans, but this was an 11-round penalty kick, for crying out loud
Saad Abdul-Salaam nearly won the game in the ninth round, but his attempt somehow hit both posts and didn’t cross the line. The Timbers won 7-6 in the shootout after a 2-2 draw.
That was in the knockout round, and Portland just kept winning as ended up winning the MLS Cup title by beating Columbus.
On Thursday came word that Portland was opening a bar for its fan members (the Timbers Army) at Providence Park. The name?
The “Double Post Bar.”
Abdul-Salaam didn’t seem offended by the name as he tweeted to the Portland Timbers after the name of the bar was announced:
@TimbersFC @timbersarmy I'm flattered you guys named a bar after me but I'm still under contract
