It’s unsurprising that while the entire guest list at Chiefs defensive end George Karlaftis’ wedding last month in Greece is unknown, there were reports of Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift being there.

No shock about that because they are one of the most famous couples in the world.

But we learned this week that Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo was at the ceremony, along with former Chiefs Leo Chenal and Trent McDuffie.

The Chiefs traded McDuffie to the Rams this offseason and Chenal was allowed to sign with the Commanders as a free agent.

Spagnuolo, who spoke with the media Wednesday during the Chiefs’ OTAs (Organized Team Activities), talked about the departure of McDuffie, Chenal, cornerback Jaylen Watson (signed with the Rams) and safety Bryan Cook (signed with the Bengals).

“You’ll bring a tear to my eye if I talk too much about it,” Spagnuolo said. “I did have the opportunity to see, went to George’s wedding, so I got to see Trent and Leo, who happened to be there. And listen, these guys are like, they become like sons. I mean, they were here, they grew.

“But I’m really happy for all of them, Jaylen, Bryan, and the whole crew that moved on. Other than when we play them, I hope they do really good. I miss them. I miss them every day.”

Spagnuolo and his wife, Maria, are known for inviting the players to dine at their home. Maria also makes tasty treats that are given out at the practice facility.

That is much more than a typical player-coach relationship, and it does make it difficult when a defensive star leaves for another team.

“But that’s the part of this business, you know,” Spagnuolo said. “Over the course of the years, I’ve had close relationships, my wife and I, with all these guys, and part of the business is they move on. Yeah, it’d be really selfish of me to think that I could have them forever, but good for them that they were able to move on and do well.”
