The Kelce brothers usually spend a lot of time talking football on their New Heights podcast, but golf was a hot topic in the new episode.
Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce said he will be at The Masters next week in August, Georgia, and his brother, Jason, will be working part of the time for ESPN.
A fan of the show asked what the Kelces would choose for the annual Champions Dinner.
After a lengthy and spirited discussion about beans and weenies being served (Jason’s idea), Travis Kelce shared his thoughts.
“I feel like I’d go universal. I wouldn’t make everybody pay (physically). I would make everybody enjoy it. Mama Kelce’s dinner rolls to start it off,” he said.
“I’m going a little smash burger, maybe some super salty fried chicken, I’d love (it). I mean, you’re in the South, so I feel like there should be some version of, like, Southern hospitality, Southern meal in there. I’m a big mac and cheese guy too. I’d probably go similar to Bubba (Watson), but a more updated version, for sure, maybe not just as simple as that, but the key lime pie is a nice finish. I’ve always liked the Dairy Queen ice cream cake, too. So maybe throw that in there. I haven’t had one in a long time.”
The brothers agreed that an ice cream cake is always better than a regular cake (a point Michael Scott made in “The Office”).
Kelce’s return to Augusta
The trip to Augusta won’t be the first for Travis Kelce.
“I had the good fortune of going down to the Masters during the Covid year, and there were no grandstands,” Kelce said. “There were limited amount of people. I got to that course and how they care about every single blade of grass and every single garden that they have on the walkways. And it was just such a unique experience.
“And obviously it won’t be that this time, but I’m equally as excited to get to experience what it’s like when the full madness is there, and the hype is there, and there’s that many people breathing down these guys’ necks on the green. And I’m just excited to get down there and experience it in a different way than I did last time.“
Kelce is not one to sit still, whether it’s on a football field or in life. He plans to walk the course, but did mention his favorite spot.
Amen Corner. That’s the stretch of holes 11, 12 and 13 that have caused golfers a lot of trouble. And there’s another favorite spot for Kelce.
“When we went, at the second or third day we went, we posted up right around 15, where the par five, where it kind of bends around the trees there. It’s like the dog leg left,” Kelce said. “And such a cool shot to me, because it’s kind of like an island green in a sense. It’s like it’s got that water in front of it. It’s a shot now, like you got to kind of place that drive. You get to see how everyone tries to cut the corner, tries to play whatever their strategy is, and then that’s a hell of a shot for them to get there in two if they go for it.
“It’s just fun to kind of see which guys go for it, where they end up. And, yeah, I think that’s probably my favorite place. Obviously, the par threes. There’s not a bad par three on the course.”
