  • Club installs LED boards and adds about 150 LF and ~80 RF drinkrail seats.

It’s less than five weeks until the Royals play their first home game of the 2026 season.

Fans at Kauffman Stadium for the March 30 game against the Minnesota Twins will get their first look at this year’s squad — and changes at the ballpark after the team announced it would move in the outfield walls.

The Royals are moving the fences 9 to 10 feet inward and one projection said that could result in 46 more home runs this season. That’s for the Royals and their opponents combined.

When the Royals announced the changes to the dimensions at Kauffman Stadium, there was a buzz among current and former KC players.

Making that change takes time and Kindle Biermann, the Royals’ manager of business and community communications, shared photos of the progress in an X post.

“The wall is going up!” Biermann wrote. “LED boards are being installed at The K as we’re a little more than a month out from the @Royals home opener!”

In a news release, the Royals said the wall is moving in 8 to 10 feet starting near each foul pole and the gaps will go from 387 feet to 379. The centerfield fence will stay at 410 feet.

With the extra space, the Royals said roughly 150 more seats will be installed in left field and about 80 new “drinkrail” seats will be added in right field.
