For Pete's Sake

Royals fans believe downtown stadium announcement is imminent and they’re pumped

We are nearing the two-year anniversary of when Jackson County voters rejected a stadium tax for the Royals and Chiefs.

Since the vote on April 2, 2024, the Chiefs have announced they intend to play in a stadium in Kansas City, Kansas, while the Royals have been linked to sites on both sides of the state line.

Could the Royals soon announce their intention to play in a stadium in downtown Kansas City? One social-media user got fans excited about that prospect with a five-word post and a photoshopped picture.

Zach Molzer of Molzer Development shared a message on X that included an image of Kauffman Stadium in the Washington Square Park space. “Santa is coming to town,” wrote Molzer, who was one of the first to publicly say four World Cup teams would make a base camp in the KC area.

One fan wrote in response: “Don’t tease like that.” Molzer replied: “Not teasing.”

The Star’s Sam McDowell was the first to report of Washington Square Park being a possible stadium location way back in August 2024.

Plenty of fans would love for that to be the Royals’ new home, and they shared their excitement on X.
