Yeah, actor Rob Riggle caught grief in his fantasy football league.
Riggle, who graduated from Shawnee Mission South and the University of Kansas, is a huge fan of KC sports teams. That includes the Chiefs, who had a miserable season, finishing with a 6-11 record and star quarterback Patrick Mahomes out with an injury.
At age 55, Riggle once suffered through decades of heartbreak and terrible Chiefs teams. But the Mahomes Era has produced five Super Bowl appearances and Chiefs championships. That’s given Riggle a new perspective as a football fan after a poor season.
“I had some guys in my fantasy football league out here that felt the need to remind me we didn’t make the playoffs. That’s a nice way of putting it,” Riggle said earlier this month in an interview as part of his Avocados From Mexico partnership. “A lot of those guys were Bears fans, so they’re having a moment right now. I congratulate them on their moment, and I don’t worry about the Chiefs. We had an 11-year postseason run. I spent the last three Februarys at Super Bowls. So, you know, I’m not complaining about a thing.
“Sure, this season didn’t go our way. We had a lot of injuries. We had a lot of suspensions. All those one-score games that we won last year we didn’t win this year. But that’s OK. I just want Patrick to heal as best he can. Personally, being very selfish, I want Travis (Kelce) to come back for another season in the sun. Whatever he chooses to do, though, is OK by me. He’s earned everything he gets coming, everything he wants. So we’re going to be fine. We’re going to be back. I’m not worried about it at all.”
Riggle’s role as ‘Guac Guru’
Riggle, who has appeared in more than 100 television shows and movies, including “The Hangover” and “Step Brothers,” has a new role tied to the Super Bowl.
He’s the “Guac Guru” for Avocados from Mexico.
“They were kind enough to recruit me to be their ‘Guac Guru,’ which I was thrilled to do,” said Riggle, who used to do a fun weekly forecast for “Fox NFL Sunday.” “I think they were counting on my prediction skills from football way back in the day. So that’s kind of how it came about. But they’re doing fun stuff during the playoffs. They have this golden chip giveaway. They’re giving away for all those double dippers out there, but they’re giving away these 14-karat gold chips.”
That’s dubbed a “Golden Double Dip Chip,” which is a 14-karat gold tortilla chip. Fans can enter to win that here.
“And then they have cash ‘Guacamoney,’ giving away $60,000 for Super Bowl LX or the big game, but they’re giving away that (based on) some predictions I’ve made,” Riggle said.
Those predictions that must happen in Super Bowl LX:
- Either the Seahawks or Patriots score exactly 20 points
- A player doing a “guacamole-inspired” celebration
- The NBC announcers saying the word “guacamole.”
You can sign up for that cash giveaway here until Feb. 8 at 8 a.m.
Riggle added a quick recipe suggestion for fans having a Super Bowl party in Kansas City.
“Who doesn’t love guacamole?” he asked. “Let’s get down to brass tacks, if you’re tailgating, you know you’ve got to have chips and guac. And if you’re from Kansas City, you’ve got to have barbecue. Sometimes you can mix the two. You can get a tortilla, and you put some guac on it, maybe put a little brisket in there, and some onions. Get creative on these things.”
