You don’t often hear about a golf event being a raucous affair, but that’s a good way to describe the annual Waste Management Phoenix Open.

Fans have been openly drunk at past tournaments, fights have broken out and golfers have yelled at the crowd. The tournament has been called “The People’s Open” because of the, um, enthusiastic spectators.

Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce could get an up-close look at the boisterous behavior next week. That’s because Kelce will take part in the Waste Management Phoenix Open Annexus Pro-Am on Wednesday, Feb. 4.

“Travis Kelce is one of the most accomplished and recognizable athletes of his generation,” tournament chairman Jason Eisenberg said in a news release. “His championship pedigree, competitive mindset, and star power make him a tremendous addition to the Annexus Pro-Am and an exciting presence for our fans during tournament week.”

Kelce, who has yet to announce whether he will retire or return for another season with the Chiefs, has been known to hit the links. He has been a frequent participant at the American Century Championship golf event in Lake Tahoe.

Other current or former athletes who are scheduled to take part in the pro-am include Carli Lloyd, Emmitt Smith, Larry Fitzgerald, Budda Baker and Trey McBride.

No word on whether Kelce’s fiancé, superstar singer Taylor Swift, will be on hand to watch him play next week.
