The Chiefs’ Crocky-J era ends as Carson Steele signs with another team
In the days following the NFL Draft, teams remain busy, as they sign undrafted free agents and invite others to a rookie minicamp.
Those who get a camp invitation very rarely are signed and even fewer make an NFL roster during the regular season. But Carson Steele beat the odds and appeared in all 17 Chiefs games during the 2024 season, making three starts.
Steele, who played at Ball State and UCLA, rushed for 183 yards and had another 26 receiving yards during the 2024 season.
Fans took to Steele quickly as he showcased a tough running style in the Chiefs’ first preseason game that year. And Chiefs Kingdom also loved that Steele has a pet alligator, affectionately named Crocky-J.
Steele talked about Crocky-J ahead of Super Bowl LIX.
“He’s not going to be able to get walks this weekend because everyone is coming out to the game,” Steele told me. “But he should be good. We’ll keep him fed.”
Steele, 23, was on the Chiefs’ practice squad during the entire 2025 season, and now he’s heading to another team.
The Eagles announced Tuesday they signed Steele to a Reserve/Future deal, ending the Crocky-J era in Kansas City.
