For Pete's Sake

Did Chiefs’ Travis Kelce inadvertently give away plans to retire? Fans think so

In the newest episode of the New Heights podcast, Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce talked about the team’s final three games of the season.

“Chiefs Kingdom, we’re going to give you everything we’ve got,” Kelce said in the episode, which was released Wednesday.

And Kelce seemed bullish about Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ future, despite having surgery for a torn ACL.

“I know he’s going to be doing everything he can to get back out on that field for the Chiefs as soon as possible,” Kelce said.

Do you notice the difference in those two statements?

Kelce used the word “we” to talk about this year’s team. But he hopes the “Chiefs” can get Mahomes back for the start of next season.

That’s an important distinction for some fans, who believe it shows Kelce will retire at the end of the season. Kelce, 36, is in the final year of his contract with the Chiefs, and there has been rampant speculation about his future.

The New Heights podcast only ramped up that conjecture. Here is a snippet of what was being said and the clip of Kelce from the new podcast episode.
