Jason Kelce shares retirement advice for little brother, Chiefs star Travis Kelce
Jason Kelce couldn’t hide his emotions in the closing minutes of the Eagles’ wild-card loss to the Buccaneers that ended Philadelphia’s 2023 season.
On the Eagles sideline, Kelce broke down in tears in what was his final game after 13 seasons in the NFL.
Kelce’s brother, Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, is now in his 13th season, and one can’t help but wonder about his future. Kelce’s contract with the Chiefs expires at the end of the season, and at age 36, he may decide it’s time to retire.
That topic was discussed Monday on ESPN when Scott Van Pelt asked Jason Kelce about his brother’s future.
Jason Kelce shared advice for his sibling.
“In my opinion, to nail that decision, you gotta step away from the game for a little bit,” Kelce said. “Play these last three games, enjoy ‘em with your teammates, enjoy ‘em with your coaches. The team is going to be different whether or not you come back next year. Then play these three games and then let it sink in. It’ll come to you with time.
‘There are so many emotions with this game right after a season, especially with the way this one’s been. ... And right now, it’s just too fresh. You gotta step away from it, you gotta think about it, and then it’ll come to you.”
Kelce’s broadcast partner Ryan Clark added it would be strange to have someone other than Patrick Mahomes throw the last pass Travis Kelce catches with the Chiefs.
Could Mahomes’ season-ending injury factor into Kelce’s decision? Time will tell. The discussion on Travis Kelce’s future was shared by ESPN’s NFL Instagram account.
