We may have learned Thursday of a new nickname for Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.

Taviola.

Kelce’s brother, Jason, used that name when sending congratulations to his younger sibling. Travis Kelce was named the Chiefs’ finalist for the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award.

That is an acclaimed award given annually to a player based on their performance on the field and their charitable work in the community. Kelce’s Eighty-Seven & Running Foundation has worked closely with the Kansas City non-profit Operation Breakthrough and its Ignition Lab.

Jason Kelce, who co-hosts the New Heights podcast with Travis, expressed his pride in a sweet social-media message.

“Congrats Taviola, the way you have impacted the game, your community, and your team is second to none,” Jason Kelce wrote on X. “So incredibly deserving of this award, couldn’t be prouder!”

Taviola isn’t a name I’ve heard used for Travis Kelce, but maybe it’s a family thing.

All 32 teams have a finalist for the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award and the winner will be announced Feb. 5 at the NFL Honors program days before Super Bowl LX.
