  • Forecast predicts a 16°F low at GEHA Field for the Chiefs–Texans Sunday night.
  • Travis Kelce says he prefers cold games and calls icy conditions his sanctuary.
  • Chiefs sit 6-6; game importance rises as Texans enter on a four-game win streak.

The forecast for the Chiefs’ “Sunday Night Football” game against the Texans at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium shows a low temperature of 16 degrees that evening.

And that makes Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce happy.

That’s not because the Texans play in a stadium with a retractable roof in a warm-weather city. Or that the low in Houston on Sunday night is expected to be 47 degrees.

But Kelce doesn’t like the forecast because of any perceived weather edge it may give the Chiefs. He simply loves playing football in the cold.

On the latest episode of the New Heights podcast, Kelce’s brother, Jason, talked about Sunday’s game.

“You guys are in a situation where every game counts, even more so at this point because of the record and what it is,” Jason Kelce said of the Chiefs’ 6-6 record. “Texans, a four-game win streak coming into this one. The last time you played Houston was in 2025 in the division round. It’s gonna be about 20 degrees at kickoff.”

“That’s my kind of football, baby,” Travis Kelce said. “My kind of football, especially after a weekend of rest. Go out there, fly around on the ice, man, take me back. It feels like we’re in the ice rink, man. So I love those games more. There’s something about being in the cold and sweating that I feel my most athletic self. I don’t know why that feels like it’s my sanctuary.”

On Wednesday, Kelce wore shorts during the Chiefs’ outdoor practice.

Anyone who has exercised in the winter months knows the cooler weather can sometimes make your lungs feel like they are burning.

Kelce acknowledged that physiological phenomena — and he loves it.

“It hits those lungs a little different too, but I’m with you, though, here’s something about the cold that just gets my excitement,” Kelce said. :That’s the beauty of football, man, you get to play in all elements, especially in Arrowhead, for sure.”
