For Pete's Sake

Here are photos from Royals announcer Denny Matthews’ wedding at Kauffman Stadium

Denny Matthews has been broadcasting Royals games since the franchise’s first season in 1969, and he’s been in the booth for innumerable big moments.

That includes calling opening day games, World Series contests, no-hitters and three home-run games since Kauffman Stadium opened in 1973.

But nothing topped his experience Saturday at the ballpark.

Although the Major League Baseball season ended more than two weeks ago, Matthews married fiancée, Amy Baker, at the K on Saturday. It was one day after Matthews’ 83rd birthday as he tied the knot for the first time.

“We have a lot of things to relate to, the love of sports and both of us having played,” Matthews told me earlier this month. “It’s a nice association, it’s a nice companionship, it’s a great friend. It’s a love, it’s a marriage, it’s a life, and it’s all those things that follow.”

Matthews’ fellow Royals broadcasters were at the wedding, including Ryan Lefebvre, Jake Eisenberg, Joel Goldberg, Rex Hudler and Jeff Montgomery.

Eisenberg, Goldberg and Fox 4 anchor John Holt shared photos from the blessed event, which had a baseball theme. You can scroll through each post below to see more pictures.
