Chiefs sent goodies to kid who had Patrick Mahomes headband taken in viral video

The Chiefs never spoke publicly about the tumult surrounding the postgame events of their win over the Giants last month.

Following the Chiefs’ 22-9 victory, quarterback Patrick Mahomes attempted to give his headband to a kid in the stands at MetLife Stadium, as a viral video shows. But an adult woman grabbed it first.

That woman, who was identified by People magazine as Nina Miller, later said in a TikTok video that she thought Mahomes was giving the headband to her. As video of the moment was being widely shared, Miller was given the unfortunate moniker, “Kansas City Karen”* by some social-media users.

*An aside: My late wife’s name was Karen and this trend of calling entitled women by that name sullies the memory of the tough but kind-hearted woman I loved

KCTV-5 spoke to the boy, who was identified as 10-year-old Joey Masters.

“Patrick Mahomes walked over to me, locked eyes with me, tries to give me his headband and the woman just swoops in and snatches it from me,” the boy told KCTV-5.

The Chiefs apparently saw what had transpired, because they sent Joey a big box of team swag. Joey, who lives in upstate New York and is a big Chiefs fan, received the gifts on Saturday.

A TikTok user named NY Giants Karen shared video of Joey looking at the sweet memorabilia he received from the Chiefs. Among the items were a signed Mahomes jersey, a cap, a backpack and an autographed headband.

@kansas.city.karen Thank you @Chiefs for making this right! Joey is very excited opening his special birthday box and the support everyone has shown him. @New York Giants @NFL @NFL Network @NFLonFOX @New Heights @Taylor Swift #ChiefsKingdom #GiantsKaren #JusticeForJoey ♬ original sound - NY Giants Karen
