Here is who national experts predict will win KC Chiefs vs. Eagles NFL game

The Chiefs are in an unusual position entering the weekend: They’re underdogs.

The Las Vegas bookmakers see Philadelphia as a favorite to defeat the Chiefs on Sunday, and the vast majority of NFL media members also like the Eagles’ chances to win at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.

Kickoff is at 3:25 p.m. and the game will air on Fox 4 in Kansas City and Channel 24 in Wichita. Here is who 66 national experts are picking to win the game.

A 27-20 Eagles win is the prediction from the Arizona Republic’s Jeremy Cluff. This is an excerpt from his story: “The Chiefs have the advantage of playing at home, but the Eagles have the advantage of being the better team. Jalen Hurts, Saquon Barkley and company won’t let Kansas City get revenge for the Super Bowl loss.”

A 26-24 Chiefs win is the prediction from the Associated Press’ Rob Maaddi. This is a snippet from his story: “Coming off a disappointing start in Brazil against the Chargers, the Chiefs are staring at their first 0-2 start since they missed the playoffs for the last time in 2014. Patrick Mahomes has never lost three straight games in the NFL.”

Taking Philadelphia are four of five writers at NFL.com: Ali Bhanpuri (23-20 final score), Dan Parr (27-24), Gennaro Filice (29-23) and Tom Blair (24-22). Going with KC is Brooke Cersosimo (27-24). Here is a bit of what Cersosimo wrote: “On paper, the Chiefs might have very few advantages over the Eagles — quarterback and run defense, among them — but there are several historical aspects I’m leaning into with this pick:

“The Chiefs have never started 0-2 in the Mahomes era.

“Mahomes has never lost three straight games in his NFL career (including playoffs).

“Mahomes is 4-0 in his career following back-to-back losses (including playoffs).

“Mahomes is 19-4 in the game after a loss in his career.”

A 30-27 Chiefs victory is the pick for the Sporting News’ Bill Bender. Here is part of his story: “Philadelphia is a slight favorite with the combination of Hurts and Barkley. Hurts had a league-best 82.6% completion percentage and rushed for 62 yards and two TDs. Still, this feels like one of those Mahomes moments.”

The Eagles are the pick for six of eight writers at CBS Sports: Ryan Wilson, Jamey Eisenberg, Cody Benjamin, Jared Dubin, John Breech and Tyler Sullivan. Picking the Chiefs are Pete Prisco and Dave Richard. Prisco predicts a 30-28 score. This is part of what he wrote: “The Chiefs are coming off a tough loss to the Chargers in Brazil, while the Eagles edged the Cowboys in their season opener. Philadelphia’s pass rush won the Super Bowl for the Eagles, but the Chiefs are better up front. That will matter as Patrick Mahomes wins it with a late comeback.”

The Chiefs are the choice for six of 11 ESPN experts: Stephania Bell, Matt Bowen, Dan Graziano, Pamela Maldonado, Jason Reid and Seth Wickersham. Picking the Eagles are Mike Clay, Jeremy Fowler, Kalyn Kahler, Moses Moody and Lindsey Thiry.

The four ESPN pundits on “Get Up” went with the Eagles.

It’s an even split for the six Sports Illustrated writers. Conor Orr, John Pluym and Gilberto Manzano are picking the Chiefs. Albert Breer, Mitch Goldich and Matt Verderame are going with Philly.

Taking Philly are four of the six USA Today writers: Nick Brinkerhoff (33-28 final score), Chris Bumbaca (26-23), Nate Davis (27-24) and Tyler Dragon (28-23). Picking the Chiefs are Jarrett Bell (27-24) and Michael Middlehurst-Schwartz (24-21).

The Eagles will win, say both Pro Football Talk writers. Mike Florio sees Philadelphia winning 27-24. Chris Simms picked a 31-21 final.

Picking the Eagles are six of eight Athletic writers: Chad Graff, Larry Holder, Josh Kendall, Nick Kosmider, Zack Rosenblatt and Josiah Turner. Going with the Chiefs are Joe Buscaglia and Austin Mock.

Philly is the choice for four of five NBC Sports Philadelphia writers: Reuben Frank (27-24 final score), Dave Zangaro (28-23), Barrett Brooks (24-17) and Mike Mulhern (27-23). Picking the Chiefs is Ashlyn Sullivan (24-21). Here is part of what Sullivan wrote: “ For the Eagles to go to Kansas City and beat Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs, their pass rush is going to have to be better than the Cowboys game. If Mahomes has his way and escapes the pocket, he will expose the weakness in the secondary pretty easily. Because of this, I think the Chiefs win this game based off what I saw from the Eagles’ defense Week 1.“

Nine of 10 NFL Network analysts see the Eagles prevailing.
