Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes on why he’s excited about Taylor Swift’s new album
The Chiefs players, coaches and staff awoke Wednesday morning with the sweet knowledge that they would finally be leaving the dorms at Missouri Western.
Training camp ended Wednesday and the Chiefs could head back to Kansas City and a night off ahead of Friday’s preseason game against Seattle.
Some plan to spend that time watching the New Heights podcast, which is co-hosted by tight end Travis Kelce and his brother, Jason. The latest episode comes out at 6 p.m. Wednesday and includes special guest Taylor Swift, the superstar singer who is dating Travis Kelce.
Swift will talk about her forthcoming album, “The Life of a Showgirl.”
Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes said he got a slight heads-up about the new podcast episode.
“It surprised me, too,” Mahomes said. “I knew before y’all did this, because they called me after the podcast was done.”
Mahomes paused to correct himself.
“They didn’t call me. They called Brittany,” he said of his wife. “I was in the back of the FaceTime.”
Mahomes has gotten to know Swift since she began dating Kelce nearly two years ago. And that’s why he expects “The Life of a Showgirl” to be sensational.
“I’m obviously super excited,” Mahomes said. “I mean, just knowing Taylor and seeing the process from just a little bit closer how she makes the albums, it’s going to be amazing. Just how much work she puts into it, and what better place to announce it than New Heights podcast, where I feel like she can be herself and showcase who she is. And I think people are going to be really excited to watch it tonight.”
Chiefs coach Andy Reid made an admission when asked if he planned to watch the podcast.
“Listen. I’m, like, really old,” said Reid, who is 67. “My grandkids will be all over it.”
But he added: “I’m happy for them. Both of them like each other and what a plus that is. They care about each other. I think that’s the most important thing. The older you get, you want these guys to have somebody they can settle down with. I think it’s a neat deal.”
