The Negro Leagues Baseball Museum was closed Sunday in preparation for its Hollywood moment.
Filming of Season 4 of the hit Apple TV show “Ted Lasso” is taking place in plain sight in Kansas City as co-creator/star Jason Sudeikis has been highlighting why this is a great city.
The NLBM is a gem, and so is president Bob Kendrick, who shared the news on social media of “Ted Lasso” being featured the museum.
“The @NLBMuseumKC is closed today (Sunday, July 27) for a starring role in the hit show Ted Lasso!” Kendrick wrote. “Big thanks to @jasonsudeikis and cast for including us in the show!”
When the new season of “Ted Lasso” airs, viewers will get a look at some of the best things Kansas City has to offer. Here’s a look at the locations where filming has taken place to date.
Gates Bar-B-Q
The Season 4 sneak peek Apple TV+ offered of filming in Kansas City showed Lasso and his AFC Richmond colleagues huddled in a corner booth at the Gates Bar-B-Q on Main Street.
But that came after fan photos posted online were the first to show Sudeikis, Hanna Waddingham and Juno Temple on the film set there on Sunday, July 20. Jeremy Swift was on set that day, too. Brendan Hunt, who plays Coach Beard, is also in Kansas City.
Country Club Plaza
The day after filming at Gates, rain paused filming on the first of at least two days the cast and crew worked on the Country Club Plaza last week.
Filming appeared to take place inside the Johnny Was clothing store at 320 Nichols Road that was outfitted with a fake sign that said “Dazzle Me Moi.”
Sudeikis, who was seen coming in and out of the Charlie Hustle store, wore a teal KC Current jacket. Waddingham wore a Charlie Hustle KC heart T-shirt, though we’ll have to wait and see whether the KC merch will be worn in the show.
Plaza employees and shoppers posted multiple photos and videos of the set.
CPKC Stadium
“Ted Lasso” is a show about a soccer coach, so there was bound to be, you know, some soccer featured in Kansas City. This is the “Soccer Capital of America” and we are blessed with two beautiful stadiums: Children’s Mercy Park and CPKC Stadium.
Paparazzi photos published by a British tabloid appeared to show the cast last week at CPKC Stadium, home of the KC Current.
The team gave an official “no comment.”
But Facebook posts suggest Sudeikis and company were there mid-week.
“I WAS THERE!,” Amyh Hart wrote on Facebook, circling where she was in one of The Daily Mail’s photos. (The Star has reached out to her for comment.)
She described how the cast filmed “for 9 hours in 101+degree heat, TOTALLY WORTH IT! Hannah Waddington (Rebecca) was the sweetest person EVER and scared the (poo) out of me when she came out of the shadows at the end of the day to tell me she liked my pants.
“EPIC day doing one of my favorite things (playing drums/cheering for The Current), at one of my favorite places (CPKC Stadium), filming for one of my favorite shows (Ted Lasso, obvi)!!!” Hart wrote.
Another Facebook post showed Sudeikis at the stadium with a former classmate from Holy Cross Catholic grade school in Overland Park. Sudeikis grew up in Overland Park and graduated from Shawnee Mission West. The photo was taken in the Pitch Club at the stadium.
Kansas City Parks and Recreation posted on Facebook last week that it’s “excited to see our beautiful Swope Soccer Village featured in Season 4 of Ted Lasso!”
Sudeikis visited the park’s soccer facilities over the Mother’s Day weekend in May, according to soccer parents who were there. On Mother’s Day, he and Hunt attended a KC Current game and led the traditional pre-game chant.
In the KC suburbs, too
Multiple people shared videos of the show being filmed in a Blue Springs neighborhood. This is likely to be where the title character is living in Season 4 of the show.
(Spoiler alert) At the end of Season 3, Ted Lasso moved back to Kansas, so one has to imagine the gang traveled from cheery old England to see him.
Worlds of Fun
Sudeikis and his co-stars have been just as busy in their off-hours.
Last week in a surprise appearance they sang the show’s theme song with Mumford & Sons on the Azura Amphitheater stage.
And over the weekend visitors to Worlds of Fun saw Sudeikis and Waddingham walking through the park with a group of children. No film crews around though.
So no close-up for the new Zambezi Zinger?
