Royals’ Bobby Witt Jr., Jac Caglianone exchanged witty banter — on trading cards
Royals shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. had multiple reasons to be happy when Jac Caglianone was promoted from Triple-A Omaha last month.
In addition to his prowess as a baseball player, Caglianone shares Witt’s passion for collecting baseball cards.
There are six cards that Caglianone has his eye on now, but so does Witt.
That’s because the cards are of the two Royals players and both autographed them. And they wrote unique and goofy messages on the cards that are part of Topps’ Bowman Chrome series. One of those six cards will be a 1 of 1.
Caglianone said the players signed them in spring training, and he had the more difficult task.
“It stinks, because I had to write them first,” Caglianone said with a smile. “So it took me like an hour to figure out what to put on the cards. I mean, on the 1 of 1, they told me what to write about him getting married, and they’re like, he’s writing about your engagement.”
Witt was married after last season, while Caglianone and former Florida volleyball player Elli McKissock got engaged in December.
That was the easy card to sign.
“But the other five, I was like, ‘I don’t know what to say.’ So it took a while,” Caglianone told me. “But I think it came out good.”
They do look good. Here is a look at those cards, and my favorite is Caglianone’s message that says: “This is gonna be in a museum one day or eBay.”
