It’s things like this that make it easy to understand why politicians are lumped with lawyers in a list of the most loathed professions.

Missouri state Senator Nick Schroer introduced a bill to “amend chapter 10, RSMo, by adding thereto one new section relating to the official professional baseball team in Missouri.”

This legislation would promote the St. Louis Cardinals and denigrate the Royals, who won two of three games last week at Busch Stadium.

Schroer, who is representing St. Charles County, is either making a joke or doesn’t seem all that interested in tackling the difficult decisions in the state.

Here is the official language in Senate Bill No. 18: “The St. Louis Cardinals is selected for and shall be known as the official professional baseball team of the state of Missouri. Any other professional baseball team that is presently in, or may subsequently locate in, the state of the Missouri shall be rightfully known and designated as a subpar professional baseball team.”

Yeah, the language in the bill does say “the state of the Missouri.”

The bill was introduced last Wednesday. KCTV-5 noted it happened while legislators met in a special session called by Missouri Gov. Mike Kehoe, who wants to keep the Royals and Chiefs in the state.

Those teams are pondering their future stadium plans.
