Mike Jirschele gave Jac Caglianone some good advice after call up by Royals

Omaha manager Mike Jirschele got to deliver the good news to Jac Caglianone.

Jac Caglianone spent just two weeks with the Omaha Storm Chasers, the Royals’ Triple-A affiliate, but he made quite an impact.

In a mere 12 games, Caglianone batted .319 with six home runs and 13 RBIs.

After the Storm Chasers’ 6-3 win over St. Paul on Sunday, Caglianone was called into Omaha manager Mike Jirschele’s office.

Jirschele, who was the Royals’ third-base coach when they won the 2015 World Series, asked Caglianone if he was fatigued.

“Seriously, how do you feel?” Jirschele asked. “You feel a little tired because you’ve been doing a lot of stuff. I mean, you’ve been doing outfield stuff and you’ve been taking your ground balls.”

Rusty’s been working me,” Caglianone said, referring to Rusty Kuntz, a longtime coach with the KC organization. “But it’s been pretty good.”

“So you feel you’re at the point where you could help them up there?” Jirschele said. “You think you could?”

Caglianone said he could.

“Alright then, you can get on the charter tomorrow night and go with them to St. Louis,” Jirschele said.

“Holy crap,” Caglianone responded.

Jirschele then offered some good advice.

“Just remember, it’s still a game. It’s baseball,” he said. “It’s a little higher level, but you know you can play.”

Caglianone got a hug from Jirschele and then said he needed to call his dad.
