Jason Kelce reveals how he stole Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes’ thunder at Big Slick
Former Eagles center turned ESPN analyst Jason Kelce was a late addition to the Big Slick celebrity list, as organizers announced his participation on Saturday.
We found out Wednesday why that was the case.
Kelce technically wasn’t invited.
“There’s a lot of people there. It was a huge night,” Jason Kelce said of Big Slick on the latest episode of the New Heights podcast. “It was my first one. I basically invited myself when Jason (Sudeikis) came on the show. I don’t know if that’s how you do it.”
Kelce’s brother, Travis, said: “I mean, I was hyping it up. I was like, ‘Dude, if there’s one event you want to go to, this is the one.’”
Jason responded: “You’ve been hyping it up for years. It was a lot of fun. It was just a lot of joy.”
Jason Kelce visited Children’s Mercy Hospital on Saturday and later attended the Big Slick show at the T-Mobile Center. People in attendance had a chance to win an autographed football thrown by Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
At one point, the Kelce brothers went off-script* and rather than snap the ball to Mahomes, Jason Kelce threw a pass that went over the head of his brother.
*Big shock, right?
“The balls were a little slick,” Travis Kelce noted.
The brothers laughed as a video of the errant throw was shown.
“I’m not blaming you because of the bad pass. I was honest,” Jason said. “That was my bad. I’m owning up to that. I’m blaming you because I wasn’t supposed to do this and you put this into my head. The bit was they were gonna steal my snap every time. And then you said, ‘Hey, next time, just go up there and act like you’re gonna snap it and just throw it.’ So I’m blaming you because you gave me this idea. It was your shenanigans that caused this.”
Travis said his brother just had to be ready for the moment.
Jason laughed as he talked about stealing Mahomes’ thunder.
“The funniest thing was, Pat after is like, ‘What am I here for if I’m not throwing the ball?’” Jason said. “That entire bit was supposed to be Pat throwing a football to a fan, and instead they get Jason Kelce botching a throw to a random person.”
Travis Kelce loves KC fans
One part that remained on script was Travis Kelce, the Chiefs tight end, catching passes, whether it was from his brother or Mahomes.
“I don’t know why I love running through the crowd and catching the football and like being amongst everyone, high-fiving and everything,” he said. “That’s like the most like fun I have on there.
“And you get to see faces, some familiar faces, some new faces, and high-fiving. And just making sure everyone’s having a grand old time up there.”
