“Mission Impossible – The Final Reckoning” is now in theaters, and ahead of the final installment of the movie franchise, the film’s stars did multiple interviews.

That includes actress Hayley Atwell, and she got a fun surprise while talking about the film: a Sluggerrr doll and a children’s Royals jersey.

“I understand you have a history with Kansas City,” the interviewer noted.

“Yes, I do. My family are from Kansas City. My dad was born there,” Atwell said. “My grandmother lived there up until when she passed away so I would spend all my summers there growing up.”

Atwell, who became a mother a year ago, then was handed the gifts.

“Thank you so much. That is so sweet,” Atwell said. “I love it. Thank you.”

Atwell, who also was in the “Captain America” movies, noted that she once threw the ceremonial first pitch at Kauffman Stadium. Topps made a baseball card to commemorate that moment.

When she played the main character on the television series “Agent Carter,” Atwell spoke about her ties to Kansas City in a 2015 interview with Rotten Tomatoes.

Atwell talked about barbecue and watching the Royals in the 2014 playoffs while at work.

“It is all about the K.C. barbecue, and it’s all about the Chiefs and the Royals,” said Atwell, who also grew up in England. “In fact, we watched the Royals game on set, and we had to stop every time something happened; it was such an amazing game.”

That sounds like the 2014 Wild Card Game, no?

Months after that interview, Atwell threw the first pitch at the Royals’ game against Cleveland at Kauffman Stadium. And that fall, the Royals won the World Series.

Coincidence? Maybe. Or perhaps the Royals should invite her back.
