Former Chiefs wide receiver was among the many athletes at the Met Gala
There was speculation that Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce might make an appearance Monday at the Met Gala, but he and girlfriend Taylor Swift reportedly decided against attending.
There were plenty of other athletes on the red carpet in New York, including basketball star Angel Reese, Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow, tennis legend Serena Williams, gymnast Simone Biles and a pair of Eagles: Saquon Barkley and Jalen Hurts.
A former Chiefs player — wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins — also took part in one of fashion’s biggest events. While there were some garish looks, Hopkins was stylish in gray.
Although he only played with the Chiefs for part of last season, Hopkins was one of the most fashionable players to walk the proverbial red carpet before games.
I spoke with Hopkins about his love of fashion ahead of Super Bowl LIX and his collaboration with BoohooMAN.
“I just have an appreciation for international fashion. ... I’ve traveled over to Europe a couple times, Paris Fashion Week,” Hopkins said. “And so I was familiar with that site a long time ago, and I always wanted to partner with someone who made things affordable for everyone. BoohooMAN is the epitome of that. They make things affordable.”
Lowering the cost of nice clothing was important to Hopkins.
“I grew up not being able to afford things,” he said, “and always wanted nice things, and so I knew if I got a chance to collab with someone, that would be kind of the reason I wanted to do that.”
