For Pete's Sake

Royals’ minor-league baseball team had an unusual ‘duck delay’ during game

Ducks on the pond is a colloquialism that’s not heard quite as often as it once was at a baseball game.

That refers to runners being on base.

But when the Royals’ Double-A team played a game Saturday in Springfield, Missouri, there were ducks on the field. And they caused a delay in the game as it took a few minutes to get them to leave.

One daffy duck was in no particular hurry, and it may not have helped that quacking sounds were played on the Cardinals’ public-address system.

But this did make for a funny few minutes, as video from the Springfield Cardinals shows.

Perhaps the ducks were simply waiting to see top Royals prospect Jac Caglianone come to bat once again. Earlier in Saturday’s game, Caglianone obliterated a baseball on this home run.

Caglianone hit another home run on Sunday. Here is that video.
