Shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. made Royals history on Wednesday night.

With his RBI single in the fifth inning of the Royals’ 3-0 win over the Rays, Witt collected his 1,000th career total base. It was perfect symmetry because that came in his 500th career game.

Witt is the first Royals player with 1,000 total bases in his first 500 games. And since Major League Baseball went to divisional play in 1969, he’s only the 24th player to accomplish that feat.

You can add Witt’s name to a list that includes Albert Pujols, Mike Trout, Jim Rice, Alex Rodriguez, Vladimir Guerrero, Nomar Garciaparra, Don Mattingly and Todd Helton.

Ian Kraft, the Royals’ Assistant Director of Media Relations, shared the full list on X.

Witt has 84 career homers and 119 stolen bases in his short career, and that’s noteworthy, too.

Nick Kappel, the Royals Director of Media Relations, also noted Witt is just the fifth player in Major League Baseball history to reach those stats in his first 500 games. The others: Bobby Bonds, Eric Davis, Alfonso Soriano and Hanley Ramírez.
