As one of the best tennis players of all-time, Serena Williams is known around the world, even though she has stepped away from the game.

Williams had 23 Grand Slam titles in her career before retiring in 2022, but she remains one of the most recognizable retired sports stars. That was evident when she was asked by Kendrick Lamar to take part in his halftime show at Super Bowl LIX.

In an interview with Time magazine, Williams said she was at the Super Bowl in New Orleans with husband, Alexis Ohanian, and daughter, Olympia, who is 7. Like many young girls, Olympia, is a Taylor Swift fan.

Mom hoped Olympia would have an opportunity to meet Swift outside of the singer’s suite at the Caesars Superdome.

“I’m such a mom. I was ready to go in here myself and be like, ‘Taylor, come get this girl,’” Williams told Time.

However, Swift was at the game to support boyfriend Travis Kelce, the Chiefs tight end, and the game wasn’t going Kansas City’s way. So Williams didn’t want to bother Swift.

“It’s hard when your team is losing,” Williams told Time. “I totally get it.”

“My husband and I, we’re so in a different space,” she added. “We’re so connected, we’re so in love, we’re just, like, trying to get our daughter Taylor Swift autographs. And nothing else.”

Williams also mentioned Eagles fans who booed Swift during the game. It was baffling to Williams, who chastised them for targeting Swift.

“Why would you boo her?” Williams told Time. “That’s so mean. That’s just awful.”
