Unfortunately for the Chiefs, the few good mic’d-up moments from Super Bowl LIX came late in their 40-22 loss to the Eagles in New Orleans.

Quarterback Patrick Mahomes and tight end Travis Kelce shared a hug and told each other how much they meant to one another in the fourth quarter. Mahomes also told other teammates that the Chiefs would one day be back in the Super Bowl.

But Mahomes didn’t say that to one player who joined the team during the season: DeAndre Hopkins.

That’s not to say Mahomes skipped talking with Hopkins late in Super Bowl LIX. Mahomes actually made a point of telling Hopkins how he made a positive impact on the Chiefs, who acquired him in a midseason trade with the Titans.

“I appreciate everything you did, brother,” Mahomes said. “You helped us get here. I love you, brother. I can’t wait to be there when you get that gold jacket.”

Hopkins said “I love you” to Mahomes, too.

That gold jacket reference is about the Pro Football Hall of Fame, where Hopkins will one day be enshrined.

That cool moment between Mahomes and Hopkins was shown in the latest episode of the Chiefs’ YouTube series “The Franchise.”

Hopkins’ time with the Chiefs was short. He signed a free-agent deal with the Baltimore Ravens a week ago.
