Less than 12 hours after news broke of Chiefs receiver Xavier Worthy’s arrest Saturday, he was released from jail, and Williamson County (Texas) district attorney declined to press charges, the Statesman reported.

Worthy’s lawyers, Chip Lewis and Sam Bassett, released a statement asserting the Chiefs receiver’s innocence, according to KXAN-TV. The attorneys also shared Worthy’s side of the story.

“The complainant was asked multiple times over the last two weeks to vacate Mr. Worthy’s residence upon discovery of her infidelity, which a private investigator has video evidence of,” the statement said, per KXAN-TV. “She has refused to vacate the residence and made a number of extortive efforts prior to resorting to this baseless allegation against Mr. Worthy.

“The complainant further destroyed a room in the residence, scratched Mr. Worthy’s face and ripped out parts of his hair, which there is photographic evidence of. Mr. Worthy told law enforcement at the time of the incident that he did not want to press charges against the complainant.”

Worthy has not talked about the weekend legal drama, but did share a pair of social-media posts on Sunday.

First was a simple message on X: two prayer hands emojis.

Later on Sunday morning, Worthy posted a photo to his Instagram stories with a two-word message: “New beginnings.” Worthy had a new hairstyle in the photo.
