Dog owners will relate to this story about Chiefs’ Travis Kelce and his puppy
Many moons ago, I had a dog named Molly who was inside the fenced-in backyard at my house while I ran an errand.
Upon returning home, I found she had ripped the telephone wire off the side of the house. The landline went dead, and it would be quaint to believe this was Molly letting me know at the time that cell phones were the wave of the future.
But to be honest, while she was a sweet shepherd-husky mix, Molly wasn’t that bright.
Like most puppies, Molly first got to know the world by using her mouth. But there are times when that turns to destructive chewing for dogs. This goes beyond shoes or toys. Social media is full of videos of dogs that have destroyed pillows, carpets and even sofas.
The latter happened to Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, as his brother, Jason, revealed this week on the Fitz & Whit podcast.
“He had these couches, and it was like green velvet, over-the-top couches,” Jason said of a visit to Travis’ home. “And I go, and I’m ... not gonna say the dollar amount. I’m like, ‘Dude, what are these couches?’ (Travis said,) ‘Oh, it’s an Italian designer. They made them.’ He said it’s an investment. I’m like, ‘Travis ...’”
Sofa investments might be a thing, but I’ve never heard of it. Perhaps that’s because of dogs.
“I came back maybe six months after that, and I come back and one of the couches is like pushed up against the wall,” Jason recounted. “(I asked,) ‘Why’d you move the couch?’ And he goes, he pulls the couch back. He just got a puppy. The puppy had chewed a hole in the back of it.”
Jason Kelce let out a big laugh as he told the story, as did podcast co-host Andrew Whitworth, who said: “Investment’s over.”
According to the ASPCA website, dogs will chew furniture if they’re dealing with separation anxiety, hunger or were weaned too early.
Whatever the case, many dog owners will be able to relate to the actions of Travis Kelce’s dog and his couch.
