Randi Mahomes, the mother of Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, announced Friday that her father, Randy Martin, has died.

An Legacy obituary said Martin, whose full name was Larry Randy Martin, passed away Wednesday at the age of 78 and a funeral is planned for Monday.

“Hard to find the words of holding my fathers hand as he goes to Heaven,” she wrote in an Instagram post. “I know he’s in a better place. I love you daddy. Well done, good and faithful servant! Matthew 25:23”

On Jan. 24, Randi Mahomes revealed that her father had entered hospice. That was two days before the Chiefs played the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Championship Game.

The Chiefs defeated the Bills and advanced to Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans.

Randi Mahomes told People magazine last week that her father was excited to see Patrick and the Chiefs in the Super Bowl.

“I know that it has meant a lot to him,” she told People. “And I think he’s hanging on because he wants to see his grandson do an amazing thing or just let him play.”

She added: “I mean, he must be such a proud grandpa, so proud. And my mom was very proud and his other grandparents (were too).”

Randi Mahomes’ mother, Debbie Bates Martin, died on April 5, 2023.
