Patrick Mahomes has been roundly criticized for the Chiefs’ 44-20 loss to the Eagles in Super Bowl LIX, and it’s gone beyond what happened on the field.

Two Mahomes interceptions led to 14 Eagles points during a pivotal stretch late in the first half, and the Chiefs didn’t get past midfield until the third quarter.

Much of the discussion in the days after Sunday’s loss has been about Mahomes’ legacy, which is odd considering he’s just 29 years old. Fans and a few TV folks have suggested that Mahomes will never be considered the best quarterback in NFL history.

And then there were fans who let Mahomes have it on social media for what they perceived was a slight toward a teammate.

A viral video showed Mahomes dapping up Chiefs players late in the game, but skipping running back Samaje Perine in favor of greeting tight end Travis Kelce. Although there might have been more to the video, fans crushed Mahomes for what they thought they saw.

Perine saw the backlash from fans and said he wasn’t snubbed at all.

“Lol I actually stood up up to untie my pants strings, no one blamed anybody,” Perine wrote on Instagram. “It’s not that deep.”

Imagine that ... there was an overreaction from fans on social media. That never happens, right?
