This might come as a surprise, but some fans made a big deal out of nothing on social media.

Late in the Chiefs’ 40-22 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX at the Caesars Superdome, quarterback Patrick Mahomes shared a moment with a number of offensive players.

When he saw tight end Travis Kelce, Mahomes walked by Samaje Perine, and upset some social-media users. A New York Post story went so far as to call it a “snub.”

But Mahomes’ best friend on the Chiefs is Kelce and they shared a long hug.

After the loss, Mahomes was asked about Kelce’s future.

“I’ll let Travis make that decision on his own. He’s given so much to this team and to the NFL and been such a joy, not only for me to work with, but for people to watch,” Mahomes said.

He added: “He’s done enough to be a gold jacket guy, be a first-ballot Hall of Famer. I know he still has a love for the game.”

That long hug between Mahomes and Kelce touched Chiefs fans, who commented about it on social media. Many feared it was a farewell to their time together on the football field.

This is a bit of what they were saying on TikTok and X.

“That’s that thank you for a great career and one last game moment together,” a fan wrote on TikTok. “Kelce will be retiring”

Another wrote: “Makes me think this was Kelce’s last game”

A fan on TikTok wrote: “That’s friendship”

Another shared this: “Chiefs have nothing to be ashamed of, they made it to the super bowl 3yrs in a row and won the last 2. So proud of this team.”

“Kelce probably retiring,” another theorized.
