Here is the message Andy Reid had for Chiefs players at team meeting on Saturday night
A dense fog advisory was in effect Sunday morning in New Orleans, but the Chiefs players and coaches can clearly see what’s ahead of them.
While the Chiefs can make NFL history with a victory over the Eagles on Sunday in Super Bowl LIX, coach Andy Reid wants the team to focus not on history, but on Philadelphia.
ESPN’s Jeff Darlington shared details from the Chiefs team meeting Saturday night at their hotel on Canal Street, which is on the boundary of the French Quarter.
“Andy Reid last night assembled his team at 9 p.m. local and he told his team to look right, to look left and play for the person next to them,” Darlington said.
“He wants this team to be insulated, to ignore the noise and quite honestly to ignore the potential history of a three-peat. Never in his speech did the idea of a three-peat come up.”
Quarterback Patrick Mahomes, defensive tackle Chris Jones and tight end Travis Kelce also stood up and addressed the team, Darlington said.
“They want this day to be about this game,” Darlington noted, “and this game only.”
The NFL Network’s Cameron Wolfe said Mahomes told the team: “This is about us.”
The Chiefs-Eagles game starts at 5:30 p.m. and will air on Fox (Ch. 4).
