Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce had 45 or fewer receiving yards in eight regular-season games this season, but he eclipsed that mark on one play Saturday.

Kelce caught a 49-yard pass from Patrick Mahomes in the second quarter of an AFC Divisional playoff game against the Houston Texans at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.

The NFL noted it was the first time Kelce had a play with more than 20 yards after the catch this season. It was a season-long play for Kelce.

Kelce entered Saturday’s game with 1,903 career receiving yards in the postseason, and he moved past 2,000 yards in the fourth quarter on an 18-yard reception.

The only other player in NFL history to reach that milestone number: Former 49ers/Raiders/Seahawks wide receiver Jerry Rice.

Rice, who is in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, is the all-time leader with 2,245 receiving yards in postseason games during his career.

Kelce entered Saturday’s game with an NFL-record 165 playoff receptions. Second on the list: Rice with 151.

And then there’s this: Kelce reached 100 or more receiving yards in a playoff game for the ninth time. That’s an NFL record, as ESPN noted during the broadcast.

Kelce also caught a TD pass from Mahomes during the final quarter of Saturday’s game. It was their 18th postseason hookup — the most in NFL history for a QB/pass-catching duo.

Other records

KCTV-5 sports anchor Jared Koller shared some other notable stats for Kelce.

  • Kelce is the first player in NFL history with 100+ receptions in 7 straight seasons (including the postseason)
  • Kelce has 70+ receiving yards in 14 straight playoff games, an NFL record
  • Kelce has 23 straight playoff games with three or more receptions, an NFL record
