National NFL writers baffled that Chiefs cornerback Trent McDuffie was a Pro Bowl snub
When the NFL released rosters for next month’s Pro Bowl on Thursday, the omission of Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes made headlines.
But it was the exclusion of another Chiefs player that caught the attention of national NFL media members.
Although he was an All-Pro selection a year ago, Chiefs cornerback Trent McDuffie again was overlooked for the Pro Bowl.
ESPN’s Jason Reid shared his thoughts in a post on X.
“Just seeing McDuffie didn’t make the Pro Bowl. Every time I speak with secondary coaches, his name comes up,” Reid wrote. “He was a first-team All-Pro last season in the slot, eliminated (49ers star Deebo) Samuel in the SB and has been fantastic this season.”
Fox Sports’ Greg Auman wrote about the biggest Pro Bowl snubs and included McDuffie.
“Kansas City’s defense has been a huge part of why the Chiefs are 15-1, but McDuffie has been snubbed before, earning first-team All-Pro honors last year without making the Pro Bowl,” Auman wrote. “He’s PFF’s No. 2 corner, which sounds a lot better than Cleveland’s Denzel Ward, who is the No. 41 corner on a much, much worse team with only two picks.”
The NFL Network’s Peter Schrager wrote on X: “Trent McDuffie was not voted in as one of the four AFC cornerbacks.” He included a shrug emoji.
Schrager also wrote this in response to a Chiefs fan: “He might be my favorite player in the league. And I’ve never met him.”
Chiefs fans also shared their thoughts (and surprise) on McDuffie not making the Pro Bowl. Here is what they were saying on Reddit and X.
A fan on Reddit wrote: “Mahomes was not snubbed, but McDuffie definitely was.”
Another shared this: “Mcduffie is legit a top 3 CB in the whole league.”
On Reddit, a fan wrote: “I personally am surprised that a top-five defense by most measures only has one player on the roster. I would be curious to hear what players you all think have strong arguments.”
Another wrote: “Ward over McDuffie is wild. He’s better than Humphrey too.”
