The Chiefs defense had a terrific Christmas, piling up five sacks, recovering a fumble, intercepting a pass and limiting the Steelers to just 10 points.

And the defensive unit did all that without its best player: lineman Chris Jones.

A calf injury sidelined Jones for the game, but with the Chiefs’ record amount of time off before their next meaningful game, he will have an opportunity to get better.

Although he didn’t take the field at Acrisure Stadium, Jones was not a passive bystander on Christmas. Jones was with the team and he delivered a stirring pregame message for the defensive linemen as the Chiefs prepared to play for the third time in 11 days.

Fox 4 Sports anchor Harold Kuntz shared video on social media of Jones’ speech to his teammates. “Adversity builds character,” Jones told his fellow linemen, and they responded with one of the defense’s best games of the season.

Here is the video.
