When the Royals left Kansas City for their final regular-season road trip, they’d been shut out in consecutive games and there was no guarantee they’d make the postseason field.

But not only did the Royals make they playoffs, they also won their Wild Card Series against the Baltimore Orioles.

The city has come alive with Royals fever. A “Let’s Go Royals” chant broke out at the Chiefs-Saints game Monday at Arrowhead Stadium and the Kansas City Symphony played “Take Me Out To The Ball Game” in honor of the team.

The Royals missed most of that because they were on the road for more than two weeks. But Royals manager Matt Quatraro talked Tuesday about how much it meant to see Kansas City supporting the team.

Quatraro specifically mentioned the Symphony’s tribute to the Royals.

“Some of the things that have been sent to me have been, you know, pretty emotional, to be honest,” Quatraro said. “My wife and I were watching some of the stuff in the hotel today, whether it was the crowd last night at arrowhead or the scene from Power & Light the other day, or even got a thing from the Kansas City Symphony that played ‘Take Me Out to the Ball Game.’

“So those things have all been sent to us, and I think it’s awesome. I mean, everywhere you go, just driving in here today, there’s a lot of royal stuff out on lawns and stuff like that. So that’s what you want. You want your community behind you, and you want to be behind them and give them something to cheer for.”

Those fans came out for Game 3 of the ALDS on Wednesday. There was a sell out crowd of 40,312 at Kauffman Stadium, the first time the building has been full since opening day.
