KC Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes fired up Royals crowd — and trolled a former teammate
The Kauffman Stadium crowd had little to cheer Wednesday night midway through Game 3 of the American League Division Series as the Yankees took a 2-0 lead.
Then Patrick Mahomes made an appearance.
Not in the game, of course. While Mahomes in a minority owner of the Royals, he makes his living playing for the Chiefs. But with the Chiefs on their bye week, Mahomes was in a suite at Kauffman Stadium.
The Royals trailed 2-0 and were set to bat in the bottom of the fifth inning, when Mahomes was shown on the Crown Vision board. He implored fans to get loud.
Joining Mahomes in the suite were his wife, Brittany, the co-owner of the Kansas City Current, and his brother, Jackson.
Former Chiefs wide receiver Gehrig Dieter was there, too. Here’s the thing to know about Dieter: He’s a fan of teams that much of the country dislikes, notably Alabama football and the Yankees.
Mahomes’ big-screen antics got the crowd fired up and, coincidentally or not, the Royals scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and tied the game. That got Mahomes’ juices flowing and he let Dieter know it.
