The NFL kicked off its annual meetings with love for Taylor Swift, Travis Kelce
The NFL’s annual meetings produced quite a few headlines this week.
Owners met in Orlando, Florida, and agreed to change how kickoffs will look next season, outlawed a type of tackle, moved back the date of the NFL trade deadline and announced there would be a Christmas Day game in 2024.
Football purists* may have been thrilled that the focus was on the sport and not the couple that dominated the league for nearly five months.
*Ditto for dads, Brads and Chads
But it turns out Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce and girlfriend/superstar singer Taylor Swift were in the spotlight, too.
Seth Wickersham shared this nugget in ESPN’s recap of all that happened during the three-day NFL meetings.
“Further proof that the NFL is living in Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s world and enjoying every second of it: Sunday afternoon, the league assembled a sizzle reel for owners and executives to kick off the meetings,” Wickersham wrote.
“Usually these reels are about players and metrics and ratings and business. This year, it was a photo of Kelce and Swift kissing after the Super Bowl — punctuated by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell joking about the season being sealed with a kiss.”
That would be a kiss shared on the Raiders’ home field, Allegiant Stadium, after the Chiefs won Super Bowl LVIII in an overtime thriller against the San Francisco 49ers.
Goodell chatted with Swift at the Super Bowl, a few days after he’d talked about how good she is for the league.
“Having a Taylor Swift effect is a positive,” Goodell said at his annual Super Bowl news conference. “Both Travis and Taylor are wonderful young people and they seem very happy. It creates a buzz. It creates another group of young fans, particularly young women who are interested in seeing why she’s going to this game.”
