Tyreek Hill says Chiefs ‘got saved’ by late holding penalty on Eagles in Super Bowl LVII
The Chiefs have turned their attention to Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Vikings, but there continues to be chatter about their 23-20 win Sunday over the Jets.
Tyreek Hill, the former Chiefs wide receiver, talked about it on his podcast, “It Needed To Be Said.” The latest episode came out Thursday night, and he mentioned the defensive holding call on Sauce Gardner that negated a Jets interception.
“The Chiefs and Jets, that last penalty call on Sauce Gardner, it was a 50/50, that’s all I’m gonna say,” Hill said. “It was a rough one. It was a rough one. Now I saw the interview that Pat did, he was like Sauce was grabbing him at 15 yards. Then I seen what Sauce said, I only grabbed him at 7, the receiver ran into me.
“It was a 50/50. When the game is on the line, you gotta let the players play. It’s a good game.”
Then Hill brought up the defensive holding penalty on the Eagles late in Super Bowl LVII that some fans and pundits believe shouldn’t have been called. That’s despite Eagles defensive back James Bradberry acknowledging he held JuJu Smith-Schuster.
“The Chiefs,” Hill said, “they got saved like that last year for real though (against) the Eagles in the Super Bowl, for real. If we’re being for real.”
Hill then playfully directed his comments toward Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, whose friend, Taylor Swift, was at MetLife Stadium.
“Then they come back and get saved in the Jets game, maybe because Taylor Swift was in the building,” Hill said. “I don’t know what’s going on. Hey, whatever Kelce is doing, I know you’re helping out the NFL.”
Hill invited Kelce to join the podcast and share his thoughts.
Here is Hill on the Chiefs, and it’s possible he was trying to goad his former teammates ahead of their game next month in Germany.
