Chiefs’ Travis Kelce can expect to be heckled about Taylor Swift ... by Vikings player
If you think the attention being paid to Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce and superstar singer Taylor Swift is too much, you’re not alone.
Kelce feels that way, too.
“I think it’s fun when they show who all is at the game,” Kelce said Wednesday on his “New Heights” podcast. “I think it brings a little bit more to the atmosphere, brings a little bit more to what you’re watching. But at the same time, they’re overdoing it a little bit for sure especially my situation. I think they’re trying to have fun with it.”
The Athletic reported NBC Sports cut to Swift 17 times during the Chiefs game on Sunday.
Kelce said celebrities don’t want to be seen throughout a game. The NFL, which caught heat for noting on Instagram that the Chiefs are 2-0 when Swift is at a game, said it “leaned into” the Kelce-Swift storyline.
“We frequently change our bios and profile imagery based on what’s happening in and around our games, as well as culturally,” the NFL wrote in a statement Wednesday, per ABC News. “The Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce news has been a pop cultural moment we’ve leaned into in real time, as it’s an intersection of sport and entertainment, and we’ve seen an incredible amount of positivity around the sport.”
Goading Kelce
One person who doesn’t mind all the Swift-Kelce stories is Vikings cornerback Byron Murphy Jr.
The Chiefs play Minnesota on Sunday, and he hopes Swift shows up at U.S. Bank Stadium.
“Oh man, the social media is going crazy,” Murphy said, per ESPN. “And I’m not hating against it. That’s the world we’re living in. Is she going to come to this game? We’re locked in, but that would be something. I’ve been watching her since I was a kid. That would be cool, for sure.
“Not for him, because we’re going to try to get our hands on him in front of her.”
Murphy and the Vikings hope to slow Kelce on Sunday no matter who is attendance.
But he said he plans to heckle Kelce about the Swift stories.
“I’m going to say something to him,” Murphy said in the ESPN story, “to get him going.”
